Resolution relative to the application, acceptance and funding of a Wisconsin Department of Transportation Harbor Assistance Grant Project for the Port of Milwaukee in connection with dredging and related work.

BODY:
Whereas, The water level of Lake Michigan has dropped approximately 2 feet from its level at this time in 1998 resulting is less water depth available for shipping; and

Whereas, The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers is projecting that this trend will continue for 1999; and

Whereas, The Wisconsin Department of Transportation has a grant program to assist Ports with planning and construction of dredging and related work projects with a submittal deadline of August 1, 1999 for year 2000 projects; and

Whereas, The Port of Milwaukee is projecting a need for dredging and related work; and

Whereas, A Dredging Project has been approved by the City of Milwaukee's Board of Harbor Commissioners as part of its Three-Year Harbor Development Statement of Intentions at its meeting of January 13, 1999, and has been included in the year 2000 Port Capital Improvements budget request; and

Whereas, A Dredging Project had been approved by the City of Milwaukee's Common Council as part of the Port of Milwaukee's Three-Year Statement of Intentions, and has been submitted to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation; and

Whereas, The Port of Milwaukee and the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District have identified an underutilized slip that can be closed off by a new dockwall and serve as a disposal site for approximately 100,000 cubic yards of dredge and/or other materials; and
