Analysis

This ordinance sets the term of office of both the police and fire chiefs at 4 years.  Both chiefs currently serve 7-year terms.

Body

The Mayor and Common Council of the City of Milwaukee do ordain as follows:

Part 1.  Section 312-01-0 of the code is amended to read:

312-01.  Police Chief; Term of Office.  The term of office for the chief of police shall be [[7]] >>4<< years.

Part 2.  Section 313-01-0 of the code is amended to read:

313-01.  Fire Chief; Term of Office.  The term of office for the fire chief shall be [[7]] >>4<< years.

Part 3.  The treatment of Parts 1 and 2 take effect upon the expiration of the term of office of the fire chief and the police chief currently serving under the provisions of ss. 312-01-0 or 313-01-0 or when a vacancy occurs in the office of the fire chief or police chief, whichever occurs earlier.
