- Analysis -

This resolution grants authority to the proper City officials to apply to the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin for an increase in water rates.

BODY:

Whereas, The Milwaukee Water Works has operated under the same water rates since September, 1994; and

Whereas, Projected increases in operating costs are expected to result in a lower rate of return in 1999 than that permitted by the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin; and

Whereas, An adequate cash flow is essential so that the Water Works may properly operate, maintain, and repair its extensive infrastructure; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee that the Superintendent of the Milwaukee Water Works, is authorized to prepare an application for a water rate increase and present this application to the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin for review and audit; and, be it

Further Resolved, That any revised water rates granted by the Public Service Commission be submitted to the Common Council for approval prior to implementation.
