Title

Substitute resolution directing the Department of Public Works to coordinate its activities to minimize impacts on school drop-off and pick-up.

Analysis

This resolution directs the Department of Public Works to coordinate its activities with Milwaukee schools to minimize impacts on school drop-off and pick-up.

Body

Whereas, Parents and caretakers drop off and pick up children from schools along predictable traffic corridors during predictable times of the day; and

Whereas, Removing obstacles to an efficient and streamlined school drop-off and pick-up routine may alleviate considerable stress and time pressure felt by hardworking parents and caretakers; and

Whereas, Public vehicles, unless they are needed for vital and immediate safety concerns, should wherever possible yield to the interests of school children and their guardians on their way to and from school; and

Whereas, The 2026 Budget was adopted by Common Council File Number 250001 on November 7, 2025; and

Whereas, Amendment 71 placed a footnote in the 2026 Budget directing the Department of Public Works - Administration to coordinate its activities with school drop-off and pick-up routes; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Department of Public Works shall coordinate its activities with Milwaukee schools to minimize impacts on school drop-off and pick-up.
