Analysis
This resolution amends Common Council File #130857 relative to acceptance and funding of the Homicide Review Training and Technical Assistance Grant from the U.S. Department of Justice - Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) in the amount of $241,027 entirely provided by the grantor. The purpose of the grant is to provide training and technical assistance to local police departments and other criminal justice professionals in urban districts to build their capacity to prevent homicides and related events (e.g., nonfatal shootings and near fatal domestic violence incidents) using a “homicide review” prevention model.

Whereas, Common Council File #130857 authorized the Health Department to accept and fund the Homicide Review Training and Technical Assistance Grant from the U.S. Department of Justice - Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) to assure that the Milwaukee Health Department provides training and technical assistance to build capacity to prevent homicides and related events. This grant provided for a Grantor share total of $241,027; and
Whereas, The Grantor share for this program remains the same, however the budget has been amended; now, therefore be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee that application to the U.S. Department of Justice - Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) is authorized and the Health Department shall accept such a grant without further Common Council approval unless the terms of the grant changes as indicated in Milwaukee Code of Ordinances Section 304-81; and, be it
