This resolution honors the memory of Corey Adams by naming Common Council File Number 171395, which expresses the City’s support for a Green Alert system, the “Corey Adams Green Alert Resolution”. The Corey Adams Green Alert Resolution aims to raise awareness of the service-related challenges veterans face and the need for urgent action when a veteran is missing.
Body
Whereas, Corey Adams, a Milwaukee Air Force veteran, met an untimely and tragic death at the age of 45 in 2017, after going missing for 18 days; and
Whereas, The Common Council recognized the death of Corey Adams as a significant and tragic loss, not just for the Corey Adams family, but for the entire community; and
Whereas, The Common Council places the utmost importance on the health, safety and welfare of all Milwaukee residents, especially its most vulnerable, and desires to raise public awareness of the service-related challenges that veterans of our country’s armed forces face, including a heightened risk of suicide, as well as the need for urgent action when a veteran is missing; and
Whereas, The Common Council passed Common Council File Number 171395 on January 17, 2018, to help prevent this type of tragedy from recurring by supporting the Corey Adams Searchlight Act, pending Wisconsin state legislation which would establish a “Green Alert” system for missing veterans; and
Whereas, It is right and fitting that Corey Adams be remembered as the inspiration for File Number 171395; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that Common Council File Number 171395 shall hereafter be known as the “Corey Adams Green Alert Resolution” in loving memory and honor of Corey Adams; and, be it
