Title

An ordinance assigning the name West Fond du Lac Avenue to the at grade roadway which passes under Interstate Highway I-43 and connects West Fond du Lac Avenue at West Walnut Street and West McKinley Avenue at North 6^th Street, and creating charges against City funds, in the 6^th and 15^th Aldermanic Districts.

Analysis

The reconstruction of the Marquette Interchange has required changes in the alignment and location of both paved roadways and street rights of way.  One of these new roadways, which is built on freeway right of way and designated as part of State Highway 145, passes under Interstate I-43 and connects West McKinley Avenue and West Fond du Lac Avenue.  The limits of this new road are, from the west line of North 6^th Street at West McKinley Avenue to the south line of West Walnut Street at West Fond du Lac Avenue.  The previous connection between these two streets was built as part of the freeway system and functioned as a freeway ramp.  This roadway provides access from and to I-43 via access ramps.  This new roadway segment needs a street name in order for emergency vehicles to respond to calls in that area.  Additionally, the police need the roadway segment identified as they make traffic stops.  This ordinance will name this roadway West Fond du Lac Avenue.  The attached map titled Exhibit A shows the location of this roadway.

Body

The Mayor and Common Council of the City of Milwaukee do ordain as follows:

Part 1.  The at grade roadway which passes under Interstate Highway I-43 from the west line of North 6^th Street at West McKinley Avenue to the south line of West Walnut Street at West Fond du Lac Avenue shall be named West Fond du Lac Avenue.
