Analysis

This resolution approves an agreement between Milwaukee Public Schools and the Milwaukee Fire Department for the Safe Schools/Healthy Students Initiative to create safe, respectful, drug-free schools and promote pro-social skills and healthy childhood development.

Body

Whereas, Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) is a recipient of a federal grant to implement the Safe Schools/Healthy Students Initiative and is the lead program agency and the fiscal agent under the grant; and

 

Whereas, The MPS Safe Schools/Healthy Students Initiative will develop community-wide approaches to create safe, respectful, drug-free schools and promote pro-social skills and healthy childhood development; and

 

Whereas, The Milwaukee Fire Department (MFD) is the largest fire department in Wisconsin and has an ongoing relationship with MPS, and the MFD’s main responsibility is to respond to fire and medical emergencies in Milwaukee; and the MFD also provides fire safety curriculum, fire prevention information, and injury prevention through various community outreach programs; and

 

Whereas, MPS and the MFD are committed to working together with the other partners in the Safe Schools/Healthy Students Initiative; and

 

Whereas, The Common Council has adopted Resolution 070875 approving the acceptance and expenditure of up to $650,000 in contributions for training and supplies for the Safe Schools/Healthy Students Initiative, Project Staying Alive; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the agreement between Milwaukee Public Schools and the Milwaukee Fire Department for the Safe Schools/Healthy Students Initiative, a copy of which is attached, is approved.
