Title
Resolution approving a Relocation Plan for commercial acquisitions in the North 7th Street - West Garfield Avenue Redevelopment Project, Bronzeville, in the 6th Aldermanic District.
Analysis
This resolution approves the Relocation Plan for a redevelopment project that was prepared pursuant to Chapter 32.25 of the Wisconsin Statutes and in accordance with Wisconsin Department of Commerce guidelines.
Body
Whereas, The Redevelopment Authority of the City of Milwaukee (“Authority”) and the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee approved Amendment No. 2 to the North 7th Street - West Garfield Avenue Redevelopment Plan (“Plan”) to assemble land for development of the Bronzeville Cultural and Entertainment District; and
Whereas, The Plan designated the privately owned commercial properties at 411 West North Avenue and 521-535 West North Avenue for acquisition and the acquisitions will result in the displacement of occupants who must be relocated according to Chapter 32.25 of the Wisconsin Statutes; and
Whereas, The Authority cannot proceed with property acquisition activities until it has an approved State of Wisconsin Relocation Plan for the occupants expected to be displaced as required by Chapter 32.25 of the Wisconsin Statutes; and
Whereas, The Relocation Plan for these acquisitions has been approved by the Wisconsin Department of Commerce; and
Whereas, Said Relocation Plan also must be submitted to and approved by the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee as required by Chapter 66.1333(10) of the Wisconsin Statutes; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Relocation Plan prepared for the Redevelopment Authority of the City of Milwaukee for said commercial acquisitions in the North 7th Street - West Garfield Avenue Redevelopment Project, Bronzeville, a copy of which is attached to this Common Council File, is found to:
1. Formulate a feasible method for relocating the occupants to be displaced from areas that are designated for clearance and redevelopment.
2. Assure that suitable relocation sites are available to the occupants to be displaced by project activities.
3. Assure that all occupants to be displaced will receive relocation payments and assistance as prescribed by law.
and, therefore, the Relocation Plan is approved; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Authority is authorized to expeditiously and faithfully carry out the approved Relocation Plan.
