Analysis

This resolution authorizes a payment in the amount of $82,208.53 related to Wisconsin Circuit Court Case Number 2024-CV-003239, Shaiquia Higgins, et al. v. City of Milwaukee, et al.

Body

Whereas, Plaintiffs Shaiquia Higgins and Alexander McKee have filed a civil lawsuit against the City of Milwaukee and a named employee in Milwaukee County Circuit Court Case No. 2024-CV-003239 arising from a motor vehicle accident involving a municipal vehicle; and

 

Whereas, the case was tried to a judge on December 11th and 12th, 2025, resulting in a verdict for the Plaintiffs in the total amount of $80,903.00, plus post-judgment interest; and

 

Whereas, the City of Milwaukee has a statutory obligation to indemnify City employees for judgments arising in the course and scope of their employment pursuant to Wis. Stat. § 895.46, and Plaintiffs’ claims against the named city employee arose in the course and scope of his employment; and

 

Whereas, the Court entered an Order For Judgment on January 8, 2026 requiring the City to pay $82,208.53, a sum including post-judgment interest; now, therefore, be it;

 

Resolved, by the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the proper City officers be and hereby are authorized and directed to issue a City check in the amount of $82,208.53, payable to: Cade Law Group LLC Trust Account and mailed to, Nathaniel Cade of Cade Law Group, LLC, P.O Box 170887, Milwaukee, Wisconsin 53217, as soon as practicable; and so be it;

 

Further Resolved, that in compliance with the City Attorney’s direction, the proper City officers be and hereby are authorized and directed to issue a check, as soon as practicable, in full and final settlement of all claims as outlined in the above-referenced action, to be charged to the Damages and Claims Fund, Account No. 0001-1490-S118-006300.
