This resolution authorizes the Department of Public Works, Infrastructure Services Division apply for, accept and fund a Training Grant project from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Bureau of Transportation Safety in the amount of $16,000. The purpose of the project is to provide state-of-the-art training on the appropriate design and installation of modern roundabouts and the appropriate process of selecting, designing, and installing traffic calming devices.
BODY:
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee appears to be eligible for grant funds from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Bureau of Transportation Safety for the training of engineering and planning staff members, community leaders and elected officials in the area of modern roundabout and traffic calming considerations, techniques, and designs; and
 
Whereas, The operation of this grant project from July 6, 1998 to July 17, 1998 would cost $21,059 of which $16,000 (76%) would be provided by the grantor and $5,059 (24%) would be provided by the City; now, therefore, be it
 
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that application to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Bureau of Transportation Safety is authorized and the City Engineer shall accept this grant without further approval unless the terms of the grant change as indicated in Common Council File 940843 (Grant Ordinance); and, be it
 
Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is authorized to:
 
1. Encumber in the parent accounts of the 1998 Special Revenue Accounts-Grant and Aid Projects, the following amounts for the project/program titled 1998 Roundabout/Traffic Calming Workshop:
 
Account No. 15-010-0100 Account Grantor Share Amount $16,000
 
Account No. 15-010-0101 Account In-Kind City Share Amount $5,059
 
2. Create a Special Revenue Fund - Grant and Aid Projects and the necessary expenditure and revenue accounts; appropriate to these accounts the amount required under the grant agreement and transfer the corresponding offsetting estimated revenue;
 
3. Establish the necessary grant performance submeasures; and, be it
 
Further Resolved, That these funds are appropriated to the City Engineer who is authorized to expend from the amount appropriated sums for specified purposes as indicated in the grant budget and incur costs consistent with the training project's intent.
