Resolution approving the HaRUNbee 5K Walk/Run for Healthy Birth Outcomes as part of Bronzeville Week 2026.

Analysis

This resolution approves the HaRUNbee 5K Walk/Run for Healthy Birth Outcomes, which will take place on the morning of August 1, 2026, as part of Bronzeville Week 2026.

Body

Whereas, The Bronzeville Cultural and Entertainment District, located in the area bounded by West Center Street, West Garfield Avenue, North Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive and North 7th Street, is a redevelopment initiative seeking to create economic development and vibrancy in this neighborhood; and

 

Whereas, Bronzeville Week is a celebration of African-American culture, history, art and entertainment that will take place August 1-8, 2026; and

 

Whereas, In conjunction with Bronzeville Week, the National Coalition for Healthy Black Families has organized the HaRUNbee 5K Walk/Run for Healthy Birth Outcomes, which will be held live, virtually and in-person, on the morning of Saturday, August 1; and

 

Whereas, The HaRUNbee Walk/Run seeks to raise awareness of and to prevent infant mortality, a problem that disproportionately affects Milwaukee’s African-American community; and

 

Whereas, The HaRUNbee Walk/Run also strives to promote community wellness by encouraging families to stay healthy and fit, both physically and mentally; and

 

Whereas, Promoting wellness and encouraging communities to eat healthier and exercise more will help reduce the risk of infant mortality in Milwaukee; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Common Council approves the HaRUNbee 5K Walk/Run for Healthy Birth Outcomes, which will take place August 1, 2026, as part of Bronzeville Week 2026; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That the Common Council calls upon public and private healthcare providers, and community organizations, to promote health and wellness and the awareness of infant mortality in Milwaukee; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That the Common Council urges all City residents, businesses and community groups to join in the effort to work together to eliminate racial disparities in birth outcomes and ensure more babies are born healthy and reach their first birthdays.
