Substitute motion to approve amending the charter school contract between the City and Downtown Montessori Academy, Inc.

- Analysis -

This motion approves a proposed expansion of the charter school program of Downtown Montessori Academy, Inc., which was approved as a Common Council charter school in Common Council File Number 980349, passed on July 24, 1998. The proposed expansion has been approved by the charter school review committee, and the City Attorney has prepared appropriate amendments to the charter school contract. The motion also approves the contract amendments and authorizes and directs the appropriate City officials to execute the contract amendments prepared by the City Attorney.

BODY:

Whereas, In Common Council File Number 980349, passed on July 24, 1998, the Common Council authorized Downtown Montessori Academy, Inc., to operate as a Common Council charter school and approved a 5-year contract between the City and Downtown Montessori Academy, Inc.; and

Whereas, The contract recognized that Downtown Montessori Academy, Inc., may seek to expand its charter school program, and required City approval of such expansion; and

Whereas, The Downtown Montessori Academy, Inc., now proposes to expand its program at both of its sites, that expansion has been approved by the charter school review committee and the City Attorney has approved amendments to the charter school contract, which are attached to this file; now, therefore

It is moved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Common Council approves the proposed expansion of the charter school program of Downtown Montessori Academy, Inc.; and

It is further moved, That the Common Council approves the proposed amendments to the charter school contract submitted by the City Attorney and authorizes and directs the appropriate City officials to execute the amendments substantially in the form attached to this file, with such revisions as may be required by the City Attorney.
