The Common Council adopted Resolution File Number 971997 on May 27, 1998, approving guidelines for charter school applicants and criteria for approval of applications. The Charter School Review Committee has revised the original guidelines to address certain concerns in the original guidelines. This resolution expresses the Common Council's approval of the revised guidelines and criteria submitted by the Charter School Review Committee and attached to this resolution.
BODY:
Whereas, The Common Council on May 5, 1998, passed the charter school ordinance, File Number 971759, which established the Charter School Review Committee; and
 
Whereas, The charter school ordinance requires the committee, subject to Common Council approval, to "establish guidelines for applicants, including reasonable application periods, time periods and deadlines for submission of applications and correction of deficiencies in applications" and also to establish "criteria for approval of applications"; and
 
Whereas, The Common Council adopted Resolution File Number 971997 on May 27, 1998, approving guidelines for charter school applicants and criteria for approval of charter school applications, submitted by the Charter School Review Committee; and
 
Whereas, The Charter School Review Committee has revised such guidelines and criteria in order to address a number of omissions and desirable changes in light of its experience with the original guidelines, and it is appropriate for the Common Council to approve those guidelines and criteria, which are attached to this resolution; now, therefore, be it
 
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Common Council approves the revised guidelines for charter school applicants, including reasonable application periods, time periods and deadlines for submission of applications and correction of deficiencies in applications and the criteria for approval of charter school applications, submitted by the Charter School Review Committee and attached to this resolution.
