- Analysis -

This resolution expresses the Common Council's support for the construction of a new Milwaukee Trade and Technical High School to provide the opportunity for the youth of Milwaukee to pursue state-of-the-art technical and industrial education in order to qualify for family supporting jobs in the skilled trades and other technical occupations.

Whereas, The Milwaukee Trade and Technical High School has historically been an important source of youth for apprenticeships; and

Whereas, The Milwaukee Trade and Technical High School physical plant is no longer capable of providing twenty-first century technical education; and

Whereas, The youth of Milwaukee should be provided the opportunity to pursue state-of-the-art technical and industrial education; and

Whereas, At its delegate meeting of January 7, 1998, the Milwaukee County Labor Council AFL-CIO adopted a resolution pledging to use its influence and capacity to work with others in the community, including the Milwaukee Building and Construction Trades Council AFL-CIO and the Milwaukee Area Technical College, to ensure that a new Milwaukee Trade and Technical High School will be constructed in a neighborhood easily accessible to the city's youth; now, therefore, be it
