This resolution authorizes and directs the City Treasurer to proceed with tax foreclosure of the tax delinquent, environmentally contaminated property located at 4924 West Roosevelt Drive.
 
 
BODY:
Whereas, It is in the best interest of the City of Milwaukee to undertake environmental testing, acquisition, remediation and sale of tax delinquent properties which are known to be, or suspected of being, environmentally contaminated and which are marketable, eligible for cost reimbursement under the State of Wisconsin's Petroleum Environmental Cleanup Fund Act and/or have high potential for elimination of hazards to public health or safety; and
 
Whereas, The property located at 4924 West Roosevelt Drive has been tax delinquent since 1991; and
 
Whereas, Common Council Resolution File 950848, adopted October 17, 1995, authorized the Department of City Development and the Health Department to proceed with phase II environmental assessment of the property at 4924 West Roosevelt Drive; and
 
Whereas, Such environmental assessment has been completed and indicates that the property at 4924 West Roosevelt Drive is environmentally contaminated; and
 
Whereas, Section 304-28.5-5 of the Code of Ordinances states that the Common Council shall approve, by resolution, the tax foreclosure acquisition of properties that have been or will be tested and/or remediated with funds from the Environmental Testing and Remediation Subfund; and
 
Whereas, Because of expressed interest in redeveloping the property, as well as the opportunity to eliminate a blighting influence and potential hazards to public health and safety, it is in the best interest of the City of Milwaukee to proceed with acquisition of the property at 4924 West Roosevelt Drive through the tax foreclosure process; now, therefore, be it
 
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the City Treasurer is authorized and directed to proceed immediately with tax foreclosure of the property at 4924 West Roosevelt Drive (tax key no. 288-1059-0).
