This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Fire Department to accept from the Survive Alive Foundation donations of a mobile Survive Alive House consisting of a trailer and a pickup truck estimated at between $65,000 and $75,000 to be utilized by the department to expand its fire safety education programs.
BODY:
Whereas, The Milwaukee Survive Alive Program educates children on fire safety and needs to expand this critical community service; and
 
Whereas, The Survive Alive House Foundation intends to donate a mobile Survive Alive House to the Fire Department; and
 
Whereas, Between 20,000 and 25,000 second and fifth graders go through the current Survive Alive House and receive fire safety training; and
 
Whereas, The mobile Survive Alive House consists of a trailer and a 1-1/2 - ton pickup truck needed to haul it, and is estimated at between $65,000 and $75,000 when fully equipped; and
 
Whereas, The addition of a mobile Survive Alive House will enable the Fire Department to serve children the department has been unable to serve with the existing Survive Alive House; and
 
Whereas, In addition to activity during the school year, the Fire Department would like to use the mobile Survive Alive House at Summerfest and the various ethnic festivals held in the summer months; and
 
Whereas, A mobile Survive Alive House will be used to teach fire safety to the elderly by making appearances at senior centers and other events when not in use for children; now, therefore, be it
 
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Milwaukee Fire Department is authorized to accept a mobile Survive Alive House consisting of a trailer and a pickup truck to be utilized by the department in its Survive Alive Program, in accordance with established City policies and procedures for acceptance of contributions.
