Title
Substitute resolution relating to the selection of the design and the designation of the new City flag.
Analysis
This substitute resolution selects the winner of the city flag design contest, designates the winning design as the new official city flag, and authorizes the expenditure of funds for the preparation of the new official city flag.
Body
Whereas, On August 2, 2001, the Common Council adopted Resolution File Number 001699 relating to the procedures for the selection of a new city flag, which also approved the design contest rules that were created and submitted by the Arts Board; and
 
Whereas; In accordance with the procedures for the selection of the new city flag, the Arts Board has submitted to the Common Council for review the top 5 designs from the entries submitted; and
 
Whereas, Resolution File Number 001699 provides that the Common Council shall make the selection of the design for the new official city flag from one of the 5 entries recommended for review by the Arts Board; now, therefore, be it
 
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that contest entry number XX, which is attached as part of this file, is selected as the winner of the city flag design contest; and, be it
 
Further Resolved, That contest entry number XX, which has been selected as the winner of the city flag design contest, is designated as the design for the new official city flag; and, be it
 
Further Resolved, That, in accordance with the procedures for the selection of the new city flag, the City Clerk is authorized and directed to expend funds in the amount of $5,000 from the Public Information Special Fund as prizes for the winner and finalists in the city flag design contest; and, be it
 
Further Resolved, That the City Clerk is authorized and directed to expend funds in the amount of $X,XXX from the XXX XXX Fund for the preparation of the new official city flag; and, be it
 
Further Resolved, That the Common Council congratulates the city flag design contest winner and finalists and expresses its sincere appreciation to all of the contest participants.
