Motion to approve amending the charter school contract between the City and YW Community Education Center, Inc. (DOA)
Body
Whereas, In Common Council File Number 981284, passed on January 19, 1999, the Common Council authorized the YW Community Education Center, Inc., to operate as a Common Council charter school and approved a 5-year contract between the City and the YW Community Education Center, Inc.; and
 
Whereas, The contract between the City and the YW Community Education Center, Inc., authorized the charter school to serve children in Kindergarten through grade four during the 1999-2000 school year and to add a grade level served in each succeeding year, so that by the final year of the contract, 2003-2004, the charter school would serve children in Kindergarten through grade eight; and
 
Whereas, The YW Community Education Center, Inc., has requested that its contract with the City be amended to limit the grade levels served by the charter school to Kindergarten through grade five; and
 
Whereas, The Charter School Review Committee on May 17, 2001, voted to recommend that the contract between the City and the YW Community Education Center, Inc., be amended to limit the grade levels served by the charter school to Kindergarten through grade five; now therefore, be it
 
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Common Council approves the proposed reduction in the grade levels served by the YW Community Education Center, Inc., from Kindergarten through grade eight to Kindergarten through grade five; and, be it
 
Further Resolved, That the Common Council approves the proposed amendment to the charter school contract submitted by the City Attorney and authorizes and directs the appropriate City officials to execute the amendments substantially in the form attached to this file, with such revisions as may be required by the City Attorney.
