Analysis

This resolution authorizes the City Clerk’s Office to accept an in-kind donation of advertising space on billboards and bus shelters from Clear Channel Outdoor and Lamar Advertising for relaying fireworks prevention-related public service announcements.  The City Clerk’s Office shall design and provide to Clear Channel Outdoor and Lamar Advertising the copy for the public service announcements.

Body

Whereas, Section 304-24 of the City of Milwaukee Code of Ordinances regulates the receipt, appropriation and expenditure of contributions received by the City; and

Whereas, Clear Channel Outdoor and Lamar Advertising have offered to donate advertising space on billboards and bus shelters for relaying fireworks prevention-related public service announcements; and

Whereas, Clear Channel Outdoor and Lamar Advertising have each offered to run announcements on 6 changeable message billboards intermittently between June 20, 2008, and July 11, 2008, for a total of 44,000 spots, and Clear Channel Outdoor has offered to put announcements in 50 bus shelters during this period; and

Whereas, The donation of advertising space on bus shelters shall be in addition to display space which Clear Channel Outdoor is obligated to provide on City bus shelters pursuant to Resolution File Number 020959, adopted April 15, 2003; and

Whereas, These public service announcements will help decrease the prevalence of illegal fireworks before and after the 4^th of July holiday; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the City Clerk’s Office is authorized to accept an in-kind donation of advertising space on billboards and bus shelters from Clear Channel Outdoor and Lamar Advertising; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the City Clerk’s Office shall design and provide to Clear Channel Outdoor and Lamar Advertising the copy for the public service announcements.
