Title

Substitute resolution relating to the establishment of sewer user rates for 2002.

Analysis

Pursuant to Common Council Ordinance File Number 010869, residential sewer charges (both those collected for the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD) and the local sewer user charge that funds the City's sewer maintenance fund) are based on a percentage of water consumed, with the percentage to be approved annually by the Common Council.  This resolution establishes the percentages for 2002 as 95% of water consumption for the 6-month period January through June and 85% of water consumption for the 6-month period July through December.  It further establishes MMSD sewer user rates for 2002.

Body

Whereas, Common Council File 010869, an ordinance relating to the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD)'s user charges and local sewerage charges, established the basis of the volumetric portion of the residential sewer charges as a percentage of water consumption each billing period and directed that this percentage be approved annually by the Common Council, and

Whereas, MMSD sewer user rates are jointly established each year by the City Comptroller, the Water Works and the City Engineer; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the basis of the volumetric portion of the residential sewer charges - both for MMSD and local sewer user charges -- for 2002 is established at 95% of water consumption for the 6-month billing period January through June, and at 85% of water consumption for the 6-month billing period July through December; and be it

Further Resolved, That the MMSD sewer user rates for 2002 shall be those identified in the letter from the City Comptroller attached to this file.
