Title:

Resolution relative to application, acceptance and funding of a Byrne Justice Assistance Grant/Milwaukee Violent Crime Reduction Project.

 

Analysis:

This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Police Department to apply for, accept and fund a Byrne Justice Assistance Grant (JAG)/Milwaukee Violent Crime Reduction Project from the U.S. Bureau of Justice Assistance, through the State of Wisconsin Office of Justice Assistance; in the amount of $200,000 with a city share of $ 0 and a grantor share of $200,000. The purpose of this grant is to assist in violent crime reduction efforts

 

Body:

Whereas, The City of Milwaukee appears to be eligible for grant funds from the U.S. Bureau of Justice Assistance, through the State of Wisconsin Office of Justice Assistance; and

 

Whereas, The operation of this grant from 07/01/06 to 06/30/07 would cost $200,000, of which $200,000 (100%) would be provided by the grantor; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that application to the U.S. Bureau of Justice Assistance, through the State of Wisconsin, Office of Justice Assistance is authorized and the Police Department shall accept this grant without further approval unless the terms of the grant changes as indicated in Common Council File# 030712; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is authorized to:

 

1.  Commit funds within the Project/Grant Parent of the 2006 Special Revenue Grant and Aid Projects fund, the following amount for the program titled:  Milwaukee Violent Crime Reduction Project:

2. Create the necessary Grant and Aid Project/Grant and Project/Grant levels; budget against these Project/Grant values the amount required under the grant agreement;

 

3.  Establish the necessary City Share Project Values; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That these funds are budgeted for the Milwaukee Police Department which is authorized to:

 

1.  Expend from the amount budgeted for specified purposes as indicated in the grant budget and incur costs consistent with the award date;

 

2.  Transfer funds within the project budget as long as the amount expended for each specific purpose does not exceed the amount authorized by the budget by 10 percent.
