Analysis

This resolution authorizes the Commissioner of Public Works to direct the permanent removal of all traffic control signal equipment at the intersection of the eastbound IH 94 exit ramp and North 13^th Street in the 4^th Aldermanic District.

Body

Whereas, The traffic control signal at the intersection of the eastbound IH 94 exit ramp and North 13^th Street is unwarranted; and

Whereas, The Common Council directed the Commissioner of Public Works to shut down and cover the traffic control signal at the intersection of the eastbound IH 94 exit ramp and North 13^th Street under Common Council File Number 131446; and

Whereas; The Wisconsin Department of Transportation has granted approval for removal of the traffic control signal at the intersection of the eastbound IH 94 exit ramp and North 13^th Street which is on the connecting highway system; and

Whereas, The traffic control signal at the intersection of the eastbound IH 94 exit ramp and North 13^th Street  has been shut down and covered since July 20, 2016; and

Whereas, Sufficient time has passed for an engineering evaluation and safety study to be performed following the shut down and covering of the traffic control signal at the intersection of the eastbound IH 94 exit ramp and North 13^th Street; and

Whereas, The results of the engineering evaluation and safety study indicate that the shut down and covering of the traffic control signal at the intersection of the eastbound IH 94 exit ramp and North 13^th Street has not reduced safety, and has resulted in improved traffic flow and reduced traffic congestion; and

Whereas, Permanent removal of all traffic control equipment is recommended; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, That the Commissioner of Public Works direct the permanent removal of all traffic control signal equipment at the intersection of the eastbound IH 94 exit ramp and North 13^th Street.
