Analysis

This resolution authorizes the Commissioner of Public Works to install new traffic control signals at the intersection of West Highland Avenue and North 8^th Street and the intersection of West Tory Hill and North 11^th Street.  These traffic signals are being installed to accommodate diverted traffic and new traffic patterns associated with the reconstruction of the Marquette Interchange.

Body

Whereas, The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is reconstructing the Marquette Interchange (IH 94, USH 41, IH 43, and IH 794) under the State Highway Improvement Program; and

Whereas, This project will change the traffic patterns on both West Highland Avenue and North 11^th Street; and

Whereas, A traffic signal has been determined to be necessary due to the changed traffic patterns for the safe operation of the intersection of West Highland Avenue and North 8^th Street and the intersection of West Tory Hill and North 11^th Street; and

Whereas, The total estimated cost of these installations is $75,000; and

Whereas, 100% of the participating project cost is reimbursable from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, and should be earmarked for this project in the 2004 Capital Grant and Aid Projects Account, Project/Grant Number SP3204011; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Commissioner of Public Works be and hereby is authorized and directed to install new traffic control signals at the intersection of West Highland Avenue and North 8^th Street and the intersection of West Tory Hill and North 11^th Street.
