Title:
Resolution relative to application, acceptance and funding of a Milwaukee Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Grant (Police Department).
 
Analysis:      
This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Police Department to apply for, accept and fund a Milwaukee Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Grant from the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance through the Wisconsin Office of Justice Assistance and the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office, and the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Department in the amount of $202,835  with a grantor share of $103,354 and a city share of $99,481. The purpose of the project is to reduce the volume of controlled substances in the Milwaukee Area. This is a continuing grant and does not involve any new positions.  This grant will no longer fund three Office Assistant II positions.
 
Body:
Whereas, Under the terms of CFDA #16.579, the City of Milwaukee appears to be eligible for grant funds from the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance through the Wisconsin Office of Justice Assistance and the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office for a Milwaukee Metropolitan Drug Enforcement grant in the amount of $88,354; and
 
Whereas, Under the terms of CFDA #16.579, the City of Milwaukee appears to be eligible for grant funds in the amount of $15,000 coming from the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Department; and
 
Whereas, The operation of this grant project from January 1, 2003 through December 31, 2003 would cost $202,835 of which, $103,354 (51%) would be provided by the grantor and $99,481 (49%) would be provided by the city; now, therefore, be it
 
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Police Department shall accept this grant without further approval unless the terms of this grant change as indicated in Common Council File 940843; and, be it
 
Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is authorized to:
 
1.  Commit funds within the Project/Grant Parent of the 2003 Special Revenue-Grant and Aid Projects, the following amounts for the project titled  "Milwaukee Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Grant":

Further Resolved, That these funds are budgeted for the Milwaukee Police Department which is authorized to:
 
Expend from the amount budgeted  for specified purposes as indicated in the grant budget and incur costs consistent with the award date; and, be it
 
Further Resolved, That the 2003 Positions Ordinance be amended as follows to reflect the change in positions and related footnote (N):
