Analysis

This charter ordinance, pursuant to the 2002 city budget, abolishes the position of deputy commissioner of public works.

Body

The Mayor and Common Council of the City of Milwaukee do ordain as follows:

 

Part 1.  Section 7-06 of the city charter is repealed.  (Note: the provisions being repealed read as follows:

 

7-06. Deputy.

 

1.  The deputy commissioner of public works shall be a qualified professional engineer registered under the laws of Wisconsin.

 

2.  Before entering upon the duties of the office, the deputy shall take and subscribe the oath of office prescribed by the constitution of the state, and file the oath, duly certified by the official administering it, with the city clerk.)

 

Part 2.  The city of Milwaukee elects not to be governed by the provisions of s.18,ch.297, laws of Wisconsin, 1907.

 

Part 3.  Section 7-11 of the city charter is repealed.

(Note: the provisions being repealed read as follows:

 

7-11.  Deputy's and Superintendents' salaries.

The common council of such city shall by ordinance or resolution prescribe the salaries for the deputy commissioner of public works and superintendents, whose offices are created by this act.)

 

Part 4.  The city of Milwaukee elects not to be governed by the provisions of s.12,ch.297, laws of Wisconsin, 1907.

 

Part 5.  Section 7-12-2 of the city charter is amended to read:

 

7-12.  Authorization to Employ Help.

 

2.  All appointments by the commissioner of public works [[except deputy commissioner]] shall be made subject to and in accordance with the laws of the state respecting the civil service in cities to which this act shall apply.

 

Part 6.  This is a charter ordinance and shall take effect 60 days after its passage and publication, unless within such 60 days a referendum petition is filed under s.66.0101(5), Wis. Stats., in which event this ordinance shall not take effect until submitted to a referendum and approved by a majority of the electors voting.
