Title
Resolution authorizing the Commissioner of Public Works to issue a permit to Altius Building Company allowing occupancy of North Weil Street between the Milwaukee River and North Commerce Street along with occupancy of the south leg of North Commerce Street, including the adjacent median, between its junction with the north leg of North Commerce Street and North Weil Street.
Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Commissioner of Public Works to issue an Occupancy Permit to Altius Building Company during construction of the River Court condominium project to be located at the intersection of North Weil Street and North Commerce Street. The permit would allow Altius to occupy the entire roadway and the south sidewalk area of the south leg of North Commerce Street, along with the adjacent median island, as well as the entire North Weil Street right-of-way abutting the project site.
Body
Whereas, The Altius Building Company has been hired by the project developer to construct the River Court condominium building; and
Whereas, Given the constraints of the site, certain staging and construction activities will necessarily spill over into adjacent streets; and
Whereas, Construction is expected to last from August of 2003 through May of 2004; and
Whereas, Altius has requested permission to occupy the south leg of North Commerce Street as well as the south sidewalk area and the adjacent median, as well as the entire North Weil Street right-of-way adjacent to the project site; and
Whereas, The Commissioner of Public Works is authorized to issue a permit for temporary occupancy of up to one-third of the roadway adjacent to building sites while temporary use beyond that must be approved by the Common Council; and
Whereas, Staff from the Department of Public Works have reviewed Altius' plan for occupancy of the right-of-way and found it to be acceptable with respect to impacts on traffic and access to private property; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee that the Commissioner of Public Works is hereby authorized to issue a permit to Altius Building Company allowing occupancy of North Commerce Street and North Weil Street as described herein for a period of time approximately between August of 2003 and May of 2004.
