This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Police Department accept and expend contributions from the Milwaukee Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Group for official use in furthering law enforcement objectives.
BODY:
Whereas, on December 16, 1986, the Common Council adopted File Number 86-1389 which created guidelines for handling the authorization and expenditure of contributions received by the City; and
Whereas, the Milwaukee Police Department has received a contribution for 1997 of $1,120.94 as a result of its participation in the Milwaukee Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Group; and
Whereas, this contribution represents the Police Department's share of Federal Asset Forfeiture Sharing distributions received by the Milwaukee Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Group; and
Whereas, the amounts to be received cannot be predicted because they are dependent on future drug seizures; and
Whereas, the Milwaukee Police Department may receive future contributions as a result of this participation; and
Whereas, The Police Department would use these funds to acquire equipment and services relating to electronics, communications, and data processing ; now, Therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the City of Milwaukee Police Department is authorized to accept up to $20,000 of funds from the Milwaukee Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Group, for the purpose of furthering law enforcement objectives; and, be it
Further resolved, That upon receipt and deposit of these funds, the City Comptroller is authorized to establish a special account within the Police Department's Budget, and to transfer to this account appropriations from the Contributions Fund (Account 01-027-8001) and an equal amount of offsetting estimated revenues from Account 01-999-9960 to the departmental revenue account up to $20,000; and, be it
Further resolved, that the Police Department is hereby authorized to expend, from the amount appropriated for the "MMDEG Funds" program, no more than the amount actually received in contributions and in accordance with described City policies and procedures.
