Analysis
This substitute resolution appropriates $15,000 from the Economic Development special purpose account to fund the Wisconsin Business Resource Center, Inc. for the Wisconsin Minority Business Opportunity Center services. The purpose of the funding is to assist in the development of the database, database maintenance and website for use by minority and emerging business enterprises.
Body
Whereas, The Wisconsin Business Resource Center, Inc., established in 1999, seeks to increase opportunities for Minority Business Enterprises (MBE) and Emerging Business Enterprises (EBE) to access contracts in the public and private sectors, and recently established the Wisconsin Minority Business Opportunity Center, a volunteer organization comprised of individuals from local governments, business/industry leaders, and representatives of organizations that conduct substantial purchasing; and
Whereas, The Wisconsin Minority Business Opportunity Center member organizations also include corporations; federal, state and local governments; banking and financial institutions; chambers of commerce; community development organizations; and non-profit entities; and
Whereas, The Wisconsin Minority Business Opportunity Center serves as a resource center for the EBEs and MBEs by providing information on contracts, procurement and general business opportunities; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Common Council authorizes and directs the expenditure of $15,000 from the Economic Development special purpose account, 0001-1310-S123-006300, by the City Clerk to the Wisconsin Business Resource Center, Inc., for Wisconsin Minority Business Opportunity Center services, for the purpose of funding the development of the database, maintenance and website for use by MBEs and EBEs; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the appropriate City officials are authorized and directed to negotiate and enter into an agreement with the Wisconsin Business Resource Center, Inc., for the purpose of accepting City funds for use in development of database and maintenance of website for use by MBEs and EBEs.
