Title
Substitute resolution authorizing additional funding for the Citywide Facade Grant Program for the City of Milwaukee.
Analysis
This substitute resolution authorizes the Department of City Development to continue to operate the Citywide Facade Grant Program. Specifically, the City Comptroller is authorized to transfer $300,000 from the Development Fund Account to the Citywide Facade Grant Program Account. By doing so, the City can assist property owners and businesses by leveraging substantial private investment and improvements to facades.
Body
Whereas, The 2001 City Budget provides $300,000 for Citywide Façade Grant activity; and
 
Whereas, The Department of City Development has successfully operated a Facade Grant Program ("Program") for more than 20 years; and
 
Whereas, This Program has provided a significant incentive for visible reinvestment in Milwaukee's downtown and neighborhood commercial areas; and
 
Whereas, Façade Grant Program Eligibility Requirements and Design Guidelines were established by Common Council File No. 971697 on March 3, 1998; and
 
Whereas, With the $300,000 earmarked in the 2001 City Budget for Façade Grant activity, the Department of City Development can continue to leverage significant amounts of private investment and improvements to the facades of Milwaukee's commercial properties; now, therefore, be it
 
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee that the City Comptroller is authorized and directed to transfer $300,000 from the Development Fund Account No. UR03300000 to the Citywide Facade Grant Program Account No. UR03392000; and, be it
 
Further Resolved, That these funds are designated for citywide downtown and neighborhood facade grant activity under the guidelines established by the Common Council; and, be it
 
Further Resolved, That the Commissioner of the Department of City Development is authorized and directed to enter into contracts and agreements necessary to carryout said Program.
