Analysis

Resolution authorizing the Commissioner of Public Works to permanently remove of all traffic control signal equipment at the intersection of West Keefe Avenue (Vacated) and North 27th Street following the successful completion of an eight-month trial deactivation period.

Body

Whereas, The traffic signal at the intersection of West Keefe Avenue (Vacated) and North 27th Street is no longer warranted following the cessation of most activities at the Tower Automotive facility on North 27th Street; and

 

Whereas, The Common Council authorized the Commissioner of Public Works to shut down and cover the traffic control signal at West Keefe Avenue (Vacated) and North 27th Street under Common Council File Number 061116 to evaluate traffic operation without traffic signal control; and

 

Whereas, The traffic control signal at the intersection of West Keefe Avenue (Vacated) and North 27th Street has been shut down and covered since February 7, 2007; and

 

Whereas, Sufficient time has passed for an engineering evaluation and safety study to be performed following the deactivation of the traffic control signal at West Keefe Avenue (Vacated) and North 27th Street; and

 

Whereas, The results of the engineering evaluation and safety study indicate that the deactivation of the traffic control signal at West Keefe Avenue (Vacated) and North 27th Street has not adversely impacted safety, and has resulted in improved traffic flow and reduced traffic congestion; and

 

Whereas, Permanent removal of all traffic control equipment is recommended; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Commissioner of Public Works is hereby authorized to permanently shut down and remove all traffic control signal equipment at the intersection of West Keefe Avenue (Vacated) and North 27th Street.
