Analysis
This resolution permits Washington Heights Neighborhood Association to install and maintain welcome signs at the boundaries of the Washington Heights Neighborhood within various public rights-of-way subject to review and approval of the Commissioner of Public Works.
Body
Whereas, Washington Heights Neighborhood Association is a non-profit association of residents of the Washington Heights Neighborhood, working to improve their neighborhood; and
Whereas, Washington Heights Neighborhood Association desires to place welcome signs at the boundaries of the Washington Heights Neighborhood to help identify the neighborhood; and
Whereas, Washington Heights Neighborhood Association is willing to maintain any signs installed in the public right-of-way as well as the area adjacent to said signs; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that Washington Heights Neighborhood Association is granted permission to install and maintain welcome signs in the public right-of-way at the boundaries of the Washington Heights Neighborhood; and, be it
Further Resolved, That size, material, location and text of each sign shall be subject to the approval of the Commissioner of Public Works; and, be it
Further Resolved, That Washington Heights Neighborhood Association shall obtain all necessary permits for the installation of any signs placed in the public right-of-way or reimburse the City the cost to install the signs if City forces undertake the installations; and, be it
Further Resolved, That Washington Heights Neighborhood Association shall keep and maintain the signs to the satisfaction of the Commissioner of Public Works; and, be it
Further Resolved, That whenever permission for the signs is discontinued for any reason whatsoever, including public necessity whenever so ordered by resolution adopted by the Common Council, Washington Heights Neighborhood Association shall not only remove all neighborhood identification signs, but shall also restore to its former condition and to the approval of the Commissioner of Public Works the curb, pavement or other public improvement which was removed, changed or disturbed by reason of the granting permission for said signs. Such grantee shall be entitled to no damages due to the alteration and/or removal for such purposes.
