This resolution continues the City's program of encouraging owners of boarded-up properties without encumbrances to deed these properties to the City. In addition, it authorizes the Departments of Building Inspection and City Development to accept title to tax delinquent properties to allow disposition of vacant lots in a more timely manner. _________________________________________________________
BODY:
Whereas, Resolution File Number 890683, adopted on July 25, 1989, directed certain departments to implement a number of recommendations of the Vacant and Boarded-up Homes Task Force; and
Whereas, Under the resolution, the Departments of Building Inspection and City Development developed a trial program (September 1, 1989 - December 31, 1989) to encourage owners of boarded-up properties to deed them to the City, under which the City obtained release affidavits from owners to allow demolition of boarded-up properties without encumbrances (mortgages, liens); and
Whereas, This program has been very successful and should be expanded to include acceptance of title to tax delinquent properties to allow disposition of vacant lots in a more timely manner; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Departments of Building Inspection and City Development are directed to continue the program described under Item 5, in Resolution File Number 890683, adopted on July 25, 1989, under which the City accepts title to boarded-up properties without encumbrances; and, be it
Further Resolved, That these departments are also authorized to accept title to tax delinquent properties to allow disposition of vacant lots in a more timely manner.
