Resolution amending Common Council File 040379 relating to the Milwaukee Police Department’s acceptance and expenditure of Regional Training Center payments.
Analysis
The Milwaukee Police Department has been designated as a Regional Training Center by the State of Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board, and receives payment from other law enforcement jurisdictions for training received at the department’s Training Academy. Common Council File 040379 authorizing the Milwaukee Police Department to accept and expend Regional Training Center payments from other law enforcement jurisdictions did not specifically authorize the Department to expend these payments for equipment and other expenses related to training. This resolution amends Common Council File 040379 to authorize the Milwaukee Police Department to accept and expend Regional Training Center payments for equipment purchases and other expenses related to training.

Whereas, The Milwaukee Police Department has been designated as a Regional Training Center by the State of Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board, and receives payment from other law enforcement jurisdictions for training received at the department’s Training Academy; and
Whereas, Common Council File 040379, adopted July 27, 2004, authorizing the Milwaukee Police Department to accept and expend Regional Training Center payments from other law enforcement jurisdictions, did not specifically authorize the Milwaukee Police Department to expend Regional Training Center payments for equipment and other expenses related to training, and it is the intent of the Police Department to use Regional Training Center payments to fund equipment purchases and other expenses related to training; now, therefore be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that Common Council Resolution Number 040379 is amended by deleting the “Resolved” clause and inserting “Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Police Department is authorized to accept payments up to $100,000 from other law enforcement jurisdictions for the training these jurisdictions receive at the department’s Training Academy and to expend these payments for equipment purchases and other expenses related to training and establish a “Regional Training Center Account” in accordance with established City policies and procedures for acceptance of contributions; and, be it”
