Analysis
This substitute resolution will approve the award of a contract for emergency work in West Juneau Avenue approximately 50 feet west of North 35th Street.
Body
Whereas, During an intense rain on June 11, 2004, a section of a combined sewer manhole caved in resulting in severe damage to the sewer, water main and pavement in West Juneau Avenue approximately 50 feet west of North 35th Street; and
 
Whereas, The Department of Public Works directed Rawson Contractor to undertake emergency work to stabilize the damaged roadway and sinkhole, repair water main, repair sewer main and manhole and reconstruct roadway; and
 
Whereas, There is a potential that some state and/or federal disaster damage aid may be available to offset a portion of the cost of said emergency work; now, therefore, be it
 
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the directive by the Department of Public Works to Rawson Contractors, Inc. to undertake emergency work to protect the adjacent properties and make necessary repairs in West Juneau Avenue approximately 50 feet west of North 35th Street be approved; and, be it
 
Further Resolved, That the cost of this emergency work shall be charged to the following accounts:
 
Sewer Maintenance Contingencies Fund
 
Fund No. 0490-6830-R682-006300-2004                  $550,000
 
Milwaukee Water Works Distribution Fund
 
Fund No. 0410-6414-R999-5382-WK64135415-2004      $65,000
 
; and, be it
 
Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is authorized and directed to transfer such funds which are available for this purpose to the appropriate capital purpose subaccounts; and, be it
 
Further Resolved, That all departments and agencies are authorized and directed to assist the Department of Public Works in petitioning and seeking state and/or federal emergency funds and/or aids, and if granted, the proper city officials are authorized and directed to accept the same, to establish the appropriate fund accounts and to take the necessary actions to offset the City's expenditures.
