Title
Substitute resolution authorizing the Commissioner of Public Works to enter into a month to month contract with SBC for the provision of landline telecommunication services having the same terms and conditions of the current contract and to advertise for bids and enter into a contract for the provision of landline telecommunication services.  
 
Analysis
The current contract with SBC expires on February 18, 2005.  This resolution would authorize the Commissioner of Public Works to enter into a month-to-month contract with SBC to provide landline services under the same terms and conditions of the current contract.  In addition the resolution authorizes the Commissioner of Public Works to advertise for bids and enter into a contract for the provision of landline telecommunication services.  
Body
Whereas, The City entered into a three-year contract with SBC for the provision of landline services, which expires on February 18, 2005; and
 
Whereas, The City has installed a new landline telephone system and it would be preferable to optimize the existing landline communication services to minimize costs and maximize the quality of the City landline communication services; and
 
Whereas, SBC has provided reliable and cost effective landline services to the City for the last three years; and
 
Whereas, SBC has agreed to a month-to-month extension under the same terms and conditions of the current contract; and
 
Whereas, The Commissioner of Public Works will advertise for bids in early 2005 for the provision of landline services including but not limited to local telephone service, long distance service, directory assistance, directory listings, 800 number service, credit card service and language line services; now, therefore, be it
 
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Commissioner of Public Works is authorized to enter into a month-to-month contract with SBC for the provision of landline services under the same terms and conditions of the current contract and to advertise for bids and enter into a contract for the provision of landline telecommunication services.
