This substitute resolution approves the settlement terms between the City of Milwaukee and Milwaukee District Council 48, AFSCME, AFL-CIO, implementing a grievance arbitration award issued by Arbitrator Andrew M. Roberts. The arbitration involved eligibility to secure a $100 payment for employees who were seasonally laid off as of January 1, 1997. The arbitrator's award directed the City to pay each employee who was on seasonal layoff as of January 1, 1996, the sum of $100.

 

BODY:

Whereas, Arbitrator Andrew M. Roberts issued an arbitration award on August 12, 1997, in the matter of a grievance appeal filed by Milwaukee District Council 48, AFSCME, AFL-CIO, relative to a compensation; and

 

Whereas, The arbitration award provided that the sum of $100 be paid to certain seasonally laid off employees as entitled under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement; and

 

Whereas, The city negotiating team and Milwaukee District Council 48, AFSCME, AFL-CIO, executed a memorandum of understanding embodying the terms and conditions that implement Arbitrator Roberts' award; and

 

 Whereas, This memorandum of understanding constitutes the full and complete settlement of all issues between the parties in the matter of Arbitrator Roberts' award and the settlement of the grievance and copies of this memorandum are attached to this file and incorporated herein as though fully set forth at length; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Memorandum of Understanding between the city negotiating team and Milwaukee District Council 48, AFSCME, AFL-CIO, relative to implementing the August 12, 1997 arbitration award of Andrew M. Roberts be approved; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That the proper city officials are authorized and directed to take the necessary action to implement the terms of this memorandum of understanding; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That such sums as are necessary for the implementation of the aforementioned memorandum of understanding in accordance with its terms and conditions be obtained for and charged to the appropriate departmental budget accounts in accordance with the customary reporting and accounting requirements.
