Title

Resolution relating to acceptance and funding of a U.S. Department of Justice FY2023 COPS Technology and Equipment Program (Congressionally Directed Spending) grant.

Analysis

This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Police Department to accept and fund a FY2023 COPS Technology and Equipment (Congressionally Directed Spending) grant from the US Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services in the amount of $6,000,000 with a City share of $0 and a grantor share of $6,000,000. The purpose of the grant is to partially fund the public radio upgrade project - year I.   

Body

Whereas, Under the terms of CFDA #16.710, the City of Milwaukee appears to be eligible for grant funds from the U.S. Department of Justice to partially fund the public radio upgrade project - year I; and

 

Whereas, The operation of this grant from 12/29/2022 to 12/31/2024 would cost $6,000,000, of which $0 would be provided by the City and $6,000,000 (100%) would be provided by the grantor; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Police Department is authorized to accept this grant without further approval unless the terms of the grant change as indicated in Section 304-81, Milwaukee Code of Ordinances; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is authorized to:

 

1.  Commit funds within the Project/Grant Parent of the 2023 Special Revenue - Grant and Aid Projects the following amounts for the program/project titled 2023 COPS Technology and Equipment Program Grant:

Further Resolved, That these funds are budgeted for the Police Department, which is authorized to:

 

1.                     Expend from the amount budgeted for specified purposes as indicated in the grant

budget and incur costs consistent with the award date; and

 

2.                     Transfer funds within the project budget as long as the amount expended for each

specific purpose does not exceed the amount authorized by the budget by 10 percent.
