McCrory and Marcia Lindholm, Dept. of Public Works Ms. Lindholm said that two signs will be needed for this request and the cost for the City to fabricate each sign is $100.00. She said if the requestor wants the City to fabricate the signs, the requestor will need to submit a check in the amount of $200 to the Department of Public Works prior to the file being heard by the Public Works Committee. A motion was made by Mr. Harpole and seconded by Mr. Gwiazdowski that this file be recommended for approval. There were no objections.	Pass	5:0

Analysis

This resolution authorizes the honorary naming of West Highland Boulevard, from North 27^th Street to North 29^th Street, as "Dr. R.E. McCrory".

Body

Whereas, Dr. R.E. McCrory has served as pastor of St. Luke Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church for 45 years, including 20 years at the church's present site at 2722 West Highland Boulevard; and

Whereas, Under the guidance of Dr. R.E. McCrory, 14 men have been called to the ministry and the St. Luke Emmanuel congregation has served the community through its participation in such organizations as the Milwaukee "10" (community-based organization for churches in the downtown area) and the Next Door Foundation; and

Whereas, Dr. R.E. McCrory is a former president of the Community Action Program, former moderator of the Progressive District, former vice president of the Wisconsin General Convention and a 32^nd degree Mason; and

Whereas, Section 113-3 of the Code of Ordinances provides a procedure for the assignment of honorary street names; and

Whereas, Section 113-3-6 specifies criteria for the use of the names of individuals as honorary street names; and

Whereas, The Common Council finds that the honorary naming of West Highland Boulevard, from North 27^th Street to North 29^th Street, as "Dr. R.E. McCrory" would, for the reasons specified above, meet the criteria of s. 113-3-6; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the honorary name "Dr. R.E. McCrory" is assigned to the segment of West Highland Boulevard between North 27^th Street and North 29^th Street; and, be it

Further Resolved, That this honorary street naming shall comply with design specifications determined by the Department of Public Works; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the petitioner has requested that the Department of Public Works fabricate and install two honorary street name signs in conjunction with this honorary naming at a total cost of $200, which shall be paid by the petitioner; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the petitioner shall notify the Department of Public Works of the need to replace one of the honorary street name signs and shall reimburse the City for the cost of sign replacement; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Department of Public Works shall fabricate and install the honorary street name signs within 90 days of the date of adoption of this resolution.
