Body
Whereas, Dr. R.E. McCrory has served as pastor of St. Luke Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church for 45 years, including 20 years at the church's present site at 2722 West Highland Boulevard; and
Whereas, Under the guidance of Dr. R.E. McCrory, 14 men have been called to the ministry and the St. Luke Emmanuel congregation has served the community through its participation in such organizations as the Milwaukee "10" (community-based organization for churches in the downtown area) and the Next Door Foundation; and
Whereas, Dr. R.E. McCrory is a former president of the Community Action Program, former moderator of the Progressive District, former vice president of the Wisconsin General Convention and a 32nd degree Mason; and
Whereas, Section 113-3 of the Code of Ordinances provides a procedure for the assignment of honorary street names; and
Whereas, Section 113-3-6 specifies criteria for the use of the names of individuals as honorary street names; and
Whereas, The Common Council finds that the honorary naming of West Highland Boulevard, from North 27th Street to North 29th Street, as "Dr. R.E. McCrory" would, for the reasons specified above, meet the criteria of s. 113-3-6; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the honorary name "Dr. R.E. McCrory" is assigned to the segment of West Highland Boulevard between North 27th Street and North 29th Street; and, be it
Further Resolved, That this honorary street naming shall comply with design specifications determined by the Department of Public Works; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the petitioner has requested that the Department of Public Works fabricate and install two honorary street name signs in conjunction with this honorary naming at a total cost of $200, which shall be paid by the petitioner; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the petitioner shall notify the Department of Public Works of the need to replace one of the honorary street name signs and shall reimburse the City for the cost of sign replacement; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Department of Public Works shall fabricate and install the honorary street name signs within 90 days of the date of adoption of this resolution.
