Analysis

This resolution authorizes the Commissioner of Pubic Works or his designee to represent the City of Milwaukee and execute a Memorandum of Understanding with the WiscNet Association concerning the provision of internet services from WiscNet to the City of Milwaukee in exchange for dark fiber at agreed upon routes within the City.

Body

Whereas, The City of Milwaukee wishes to enhance the internet service available to the City; and

Whereas, The WiscNet (the "Association") is a not-for-profit association established to further education, research, economic development and public service in the State of Wisconsin by creating and operating a digital communications network interconnecting public and private organizations including the provision of internet services; and

Whereas, The City of Milwaukee owns dark fiber in certain routes that would be beneficial to the extension and enhancement of WiscNet services in the City of Milwaukee; and

Whereas, It would be in the best interests of the City of Milwaukee and WiscNet to exchange Internet service from WiscNet to the City of Milwaukee in exchange for dark fiber at agreed upon routes within the City; and

Whereas, The Memorandum of Understanding attached to the file represents the duties and responsibilities of the City of Milwaukee and the WiscNet Association concerning the provision of internet service from WiscNet to the City of Milwaukee in exchange for dark fiber at agreed upon routes within the City; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee that the Commissioner of Public Works or his designee is authorized and directed to represent the City of Milwaukee to the WiscNet Association and to execute a Memorandum of Understanding with the WiscNet Association concerning the provision of internet services from WiscNet to the City of Milwaukee in exchange for dark fiber at agreed upon routes within the City.
