Title

Substitute Resolution appropriating up to $2,279.44 from the Community and Economic Development Fund for Bronzeville Week.

Analysis

This resolution rescinds $1,000 from Girls’ Day and $54.43 from the MKE Business Now Summit and returns those funds to the 2026 Community and Economic Development Committee Fund. The resolution further allocates $2,279.44 from the 2026 Community and Economic Development Committee Fund Special Purpose Account to support Bronzeville Week.

Body

Whereas, The Community and Economic Development Committee Fund Special Purpose Account is used to promote the City’s economic development programs and attract new industry to the City; and

Whereas, The first Bronzeville Week was designated on July 23, 2013, by Common Council Resolution File Number 130456; and

Whereas, The Bronzeville Cultural and Entertainment District is a City of Milwaukee redevelopment initiative inspired by Milwaukee’s original Bronzeville District of the early- to mid-1900s; and

Whereas, The purpose of the Bronzeville Redevelopment Plan is to create economic development in a predominately African-American neighborhood in a way that recaptures the enthusiasm and appeal of the original Bronzeville District; and

Whereas, The appropriation of up to $2,279.44 from the Community and Economic Development Committee Fund for Bronzeville Week will provide funding to support the events associated with Bronzeville Week; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that a $1,000 allocation for Girls’ Day (Common Council File No. 252096) and $54.43 of the allocation for the MKE Business Now Summit (Common Council File No. 251677) from the Community and Economic Development Committee Fund Special Purpose Account are rescinded; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the City Clerk is authorized to expend up to $2,279.44 from the 2026 Community and Economic Development Committee Fund Special Purpose Account No. 0001-1310-S123-006300 to support the 2026 Bronzeville Week event
