Title

Substitute relating to the inclusion of the Milwaukee Fire Historical Society LTD and the Milwaukee Junior Fire Institute, Inc. in the City of Milwaukee Employees’ Combined Giving Campaign.

Analysis

This resolution directs the proper City officials to take the actions necessary to ensure that the Milwaukee Fire Historical Society LTD and the Milwaukee Junior Fire Institute are included as participating recipients of donations in the City of Milwaukee Combined Giving Campaign.

Body

Whereas, The City's Combined Giving Campaign is an annual fund drive in which City employees pool their resources to improve the quality of life in the Milwaukee community by contributing to umbrella groups of local nonprofit agencies, individual agencies within those umbrella groups, various designated unaffiliated agencies or other qualified 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations that provide health or human services in Wisconsin; and

 

Whereas, The Milwaukee Fire Historical Society LTD was established in 1981 to preserve the history, heritage and traditions of the Milwaukee Fire Department; and

 

Whereas, The mission of the Milwaukee Fire Historical Society is to act as a caretaker in promoting the legacy of the Milwaukee Fire Department; and

Whereas, Contributions to the Milwaukee Fire Historical Society assist in maintaining a museum located in the former firehouse at 1615 W. Oklahoma Ave., which displays a collection of memorabilia and vintage fire apparatus, and in conducting educational and historical research activities; and

 

Whereas, The Milwaukee Fire Historical Society is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization; and

 

Whereas, The Milwaukee Junior Fire Institute, Inc., is a program designed to teach basic firefighting and first aid skills to young adults between the ages of 14 and 20 who are interested in a career in fire service; and

 

Whereas, The Milwaukee Junior Fire Institute exposes young adults to Fire Department operations and the Fire Department chain-of-command, teaches participants about self-contained breathing apparatus and other firefighting equipment, and provides opportunities for participants to perform community service functions with the Milwaukee Fire Department; and

Whereas, Contributions to the Milwaukee Junior Fire Institute support the administration and operating expenses for monthly young adult programs and activities; and

 

Whereas, The Milwaukee Junior Fire Institute is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the proper City officials are directed to take the actions necessary to ensure that the Milwaukee Fire Historical Society LTD is included as a participating recipient of donations in future City of Milwaukee Combined Giving Campaigns; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That the proper City officials are directed to take the actions necessary to ensure that the Milwaukee Junior Fire Institute, Inc., is included as a participating recipient of donations in future City of Milwaukee Combined Giving Campaigns.
