This ordinance increases the number of years of experience required for a Class 1 master electrician from 6 to 7 and deletes the requirement that the electrical license examining board schedule examinations in March and September annually (examinations would still be conducted in May and any other times as determined by the board).
BODY:
The Mayor and Common Council of the City of Milwaukee do ordain as follows:
 
Part 1. Section 222-11-2-d of the code is amended to read:
 
222-11.      Electrical License and Certificate of Qualifications.
 
2. CERTIFICATE OF ELECTRICAL QUALIFICATIONS.
 
d.      Applicants for Class 1 master electrician certificate shall prove that they have had at least [[6]] >>7<< years of previous practical experience personally installing, altering or repairing electric wiring for electric light, heat or power. In lieu of previous practical experience, credit may be allowed for each year and fraction thereof of attendance at a recognized school if the course taken by the applicant was primarily electrical. No credit shall be allowed any applicant for experience gained while doing any electrical work which is ordinarily incidental to or associated with nonelectrical occupations or for any experience gained illegally heretofore or hereafter, as determined by the board.
 
Part 2. Section 222-12-4-a of the code is amended to read:
 
222-12.      Electrical License Examining Board.
 
4.      POWER AND DUTIES OF THE BOARD.
 
a. It shall be the duty of the board to conduct at least [[2 examinations each year, one in the month of March, and one in the month of September]]>>one examination each year, in the month of May<<. Other examinations may be held at any time at the discretion of the board. Such examinations shall be for the purpose of determining the qualifications (electrical fitness) of applicants who desire to qualify as Class 1 master electricians, Class 2 maintenance electricians [[and]]>>,<< Class 3 elevator electricians >> and Class 4 handicap lift electricians<<.
