Substitute resolution affirming the Historic Preservation Commission's decision and denying an appeal relating to a Certificate of Appropriateness for a painted or removable wall sign at 1033 N. Old World Third Street in the Old World Third Street Historic District for Salvatore Safina in the 4th Aldermanic District.
Analysis
This resolution affirms the Historic Preservation Commission’s action to deny a painted or removeable wall sign proposal on the exterior façade of the north wall of the building located at 1033 N. Old World 3rd Street as described in the application and staff report.
Body
Whereas, In accordance with s.320-21-11-c of the Milwaukee Code of Ordinances, the Historic Preservation Commission reviewed the certificate of appropriateness at a December 12, 2016 meeting and, by a unanimous vote of six (6) ayes and zero (0) noes denied a painted or removeable wall sign on the exterior façade of the north wall of the building located at 1033 N. Old World 3rd Street relative to a certificate of appropriateness.
Whereas, The owner, pursuant to s.320-21-11-l of the Milwaukee Code of Ordinances, is entitled to appeal to the Common Council the Commission's decision to deny or grant with conditions on a certificate of appropriateness; and
Whereas, On January 4, 2017, the owner, Salvatore Safina, appealed the Historic Preservation Commission’s (HPC) decision to deny a painted or removeable wall sign on the exterior façade of the north wall of the building relative a certificate of appropriateness; and
Whereas, The Zoning, Neighborhoods and Development Committee held a hearing on July 6, 2017 related to the appeal of the owner, Salvatore Safina, of the Historic Preservation Commission decision on the certificate of appropriateness; and
Whereas, By a vote of four (4) ayes and one (1) no, the Committee affirmed the decision of the Historic Preservation Commission and denied the appeal filed by the owner relative to a certificate of appropriateness; now, therefore, be it;
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the appeal filed by the owner, Salvatore Safina, relative to a certificate of appropriateness is denied; and
Further Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the decision of the Historic Preservation Commission to deny a painted or removeable wall sign on the exterior façade of the north wall of the building located at 1033 N. Old World 3rd Street, as described in the application and staff report attached to the file relative to a certificate of appropriateness, be affirmed.
