Title
Resolution authorizing the City Engineer to apply for a Highway Safety Improvement Program grant to install traffic control signals at the intersections of West Kilbourn Avenue at North 16th Street and North 17th Street.
Analysis
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is soliciting applications for funds under the Federal Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP). The program is intended to reduce the number and severity of vehicle and pedestrian crashes. Successful grant applications will be funded 90 percent by the grant program. The Department of Public Works intends to submit an application to install traffic control signals at the intersections of West Kilbourn Avenue at North 16th Street and North 17th Street.

Whereas, The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is soliciting applications for funds under the Federal Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP); and
Whereas, The program is intended to reduce the number and severity of vehicle and pedestrian crashes; and
Whereas, The total estimated cost of this project is $109,877.18 for the installation of street lighting and traffic signal improvements; and
Whereas, The Department of Public Works (DPW) has identified the intersections of West Kilbourn Avenue at North 16th Street and North 17th Street for installation of traffic control signals; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the City Engineer is authorized to submit an application for the Highway Safety Improvement Program to install traffic control signals at the intersections of West Kilbourn Avenue at North 16th Street and North 17th Street at a total estimated cost of $225,000.00; and, be it
Further Resolved, That any successful grant projects will be brought to the Common Council for approval to enter into Project Agreements.
