Body
The Milwaukee City Hall is a City landmark with substantial history that has recently undergone extensive restoration; and

Whereas, The 8th floor of City Hall is currently vacant, which provides the opportunity to determine if alternative uses of the 8th floor of City Hall are feasible; and

Whereas, Renovating the 8th floor of City Hall to include a banquet facility that has the potential to become one of the City's premier special event facilities is an alternative use of the 8th floor that merits consideration; and

Whereas, Providing historical exhibits related to City Hall and the City of Milwaukee in a City Hall banquet facility would enhance the experience of patrons attending special events in a City Hall banquet facility and could also be made available for viewing by the general public when the banquet facility is not in use; and

Whereas, The 2012 Budget includes $205,000 in capital funding for the Department of Public Works' Space Planning, Alterations and Engineering account, which provides funding for architectural and engineering services related to office space studies, including the preparation of preliminary plans and cost estimates for proposed projects, and unscheduled interior office alterations for City departments; and

Whereas, The Department of Public Works (DPW) finds it necessary to hire outside architects to conduct a feasibility and cost study of renovating the 8th floor of City Hall to include a banquet facility and historical exhibition space; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee that the DPW is directed to conduct a study of the feasibility and cost of remodeling the 8th floor of City Hall into a banquet facility that includes a full kitchen with a properly-vented grill; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the feasibility and cost study shall also include the feasibility and cost of providing space in the banquet facility to display historical exhibits related to City Hall and the City of Milwaukee; and, be it

Further Resolved, That DPW shall submit a written report to the Public Works Committee no later than its regularly-scheduled September 12, 2012, meeting; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Common Council approves the appropriation and expenditure of up to $20,500 from the Department of Public Works' 2012 Space Planning, Alterations and Engineering account (BU110010800
) for  conducting a feasibility and cost study of renovating the 8th floor of City Hall to include a banquet facility and historical exhibition space.
