Title
Substitute resolution relating to the designation of an area in the 15th aldermanic district as a rental property inspection program district.
Analysis
This resolution establishes Rental Property Inspection District #1 in the 15th Aldermanic district and defines its boundaries.
Body
Whereas, Wisconsin State laws allow municipalities to establish rental property inspection programs and to designate districts within which rental properties may be subject to additional inspections for habitability violations; and
Whereas, Common Council File Number 260363 creates a Rental Property Inspection program; and
Whereas, The area approximately within West Center Street, North Sherman Boulevard, North 50th Street, and West North Avenue contains a high rates of building code complaints; and
Whereas, Establishing a rental property inspection program district in this area and increasing inspections within the district will improve the habitability of housing for renters; and
Whereas, Creating a first Residential Property Inspection District #1 will allow the City to evaluate the efficacy of the rental inspection program for wider use in other areas with high rates of blight, code complaints, violations, deteriorating property values, or increases in single family home conversions to rental units; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, That Rental Property Inspection Program District #1 is created; and, be it
Further Resolved, That Rental Property Inspection Program District #1 shall consist of the area bounded by West Center Street, North Sherman Boulevard, West North Avenue, North 46th Street, West Meinecke Avenue, North 46th Street and North 50th Street; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the effective date of this resolution shall be the effective date of Common Council File Number 260363.
