TITLE

Resolution authorizing the issuance of a permit to Dawes Rigging and Crane Rentals allowing occupancy of two thirds of West Scott Street between South 2nd and South 3rd Streets.

ANALYSIS

This resolution authorizes City officials to issue an occupancy permit to allow Dawes Rigging and Crane Rentals to close two thirds of West Scott Street between South 2nd and South 3rd Streets.  Dawes will be erecting a crane in conjunction with a restoration project of pre-cast panel on the roof of the Allen Bradley building and the removal of a cooling tower.  In consideration of safety no on-site land is available to place the mobile crane.  Therefore, Dawes has requested permission to occupy two thirds of West Scott Street.  Occupancy is expected to last for about six (6) weeks.

BODY

Whereas, Dawes is an agent for Rockwell Automation, the owner of the building; and

 

Whereas, The existing building essentially covers the entire site leaving no room for placing the crane on private property or within less than two thirds of the roadway; and

 

Whereas, Dawes has requested permission to occupy two thirds of the roadway on West Scott Street between South 2nd and South 3rd Streets to perform the required functions; and

 

Whereas, The street closure is expected to last about six (6) weeks; and

 

Whereas, One lane will remain available to local traffic only at all times; and

 

Whereas, Dawes will be responsible to provide all necessary traffic control in accordance with City requirements and permits; and

 

Whereas, The Commissioner of Public Works may approve temporary occupancy of up to one third of roadway while temporary use beyond that point must be approved by the Common Council; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the appropriate City officials are hereby authorized to issue a permit to Dawes allowing occupancy of the section of West Scott Street described herein for a period of up to six (6) weeks from the date the permit is issued.
