Title

Resolution transferring departmental budget authority for the previously awarded U.S. Department of Justice Bureau of Justice Assistance Byrne Criminal Justice Innovation Program grant from the Medical College of Wisconsin.

Analysis

The City previously accepted a U.S. Department of Justice Bureau of Justice Assistance Byrne Criminal Justice Innovation Program grant from the Medical College of Wisconsin to take part in a joint effort to reduce violence known as the Violence Reduction - Public Health & Safety Team (VR-PHAST). This resolution authorizes the City Comptroller to transfer the remaining balance as of December 31, 2023 in expenditure authority from that grant from the Health Department to the Department of Administration, which will carry out the purpose of the grant.

Whereas, On January 17, 2023, the Common Council adopted Resolution File Number 220981, accepting and funding the U.S. Department of Justice Bureau of Justice Assistance Byrne Criminal Justice Innovation Program grant in the amount of $208,874 from the from the Medical College of Wisconsin to to take part in a joint effort to reduce violence known as the Violence Reduction - Public Health & Safety Team (VR-PHAST); and

 

Whereas, the Office of Violence Prevention, which manages this grant-funded program will be organizationally transferred from the Health Department to the Department of Administration in January of 2024; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the City Comptroller is authorized to transfer budget authority equal to the remaining balance as of December 31, 2023 from the U.S. Department of Justice Bureau of Justice Assistance Byrne Criminal Justice Innovation Program grant to the Department of Administration to fund the department taking part in a joint effort to reduce violence known as the Violence Reduction - Public Health & Safety Team (VR-PHAST); and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is authorized to transfer the balance remaining as of December 31, 2023 within the Project/Grant Parent for the project titled OVP - VR-PHAST from the Health Department to the Department of Administration.
