Substitute resolution rescinding Common Council File Number 060225 requiring quarterly crime reports relating to aldermanic districts.
Analysis
This resolution rescinds Common Council Resolution File Number 060225, adopted July 12, 2006, requiring the Police Department to issue quarterly reports to all Common Council members and further directing the Chief of Police or representative to appear before the appropriate Council committee to present and discuss findings and trends contained in the quarterly reports. The resolution replaces the 2006 requirement with a requirement that the Chief of Police appear to discuss crime statistics, which are available on the Online Milwaukee Aldermanic District Statistics website, at the request of the Public Safety Committee.

Whereas, Common Council Resolution File Number 68-2494, adopted March 4, 1969, authorized the Police Department to issue monthly reports to all Common Council members concerning major reportable crimes within the census tracts of the City of Milwaukee; and
Whereas, Common Council Resolution File Number 060225, adopted July 12, 2006, rescinded Resolution File Number 68-2494 and instead authorized the Police Department to issue quarterly reports to all Common Council members within 2 months of the close of each quarter, further directing the Chief of Police or representative to appear before the appropriate Council committee to present and discuss findings and trends contained in the quarterly report; and
Whereas, Up-to-date crime statistics are now available at the Online Milwaukee Aldermanic District Statistics website, presenting more timely information consistent with the Police Department's policy to keep elected officials apprised of the conditions and service needs in their districts; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that Resolution File Number 060225, adopted July 12, 2006, authorizing the Police Department to issue quarterly reports to all Common Council members and directing the Chief of Police or representative to appear before the appropriate Council committee to present and discuss findings and trends contained in the quarterly report, is rescinded; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Chief of Police shall appear to discuss crime statistics and trends at the request of the Public Safety Committee.
